Here are India’s top 10 low price cars and SUVs that come equipped with sunroof.
Gone are those days when the presence of an electric sunroof was restricted to only luxury brands. The growing share of younger generation buyers and their craze for sunroof in their cars has allowed many mass-market car makers to make the feature available in their compact offerings too.
Here’s a list of the ten most affordable cars in India that have the feature of sunroof in one or more variants of theirs:
Tata Nexon
The popularity of Tata Nexon shot upwards ever since the facelifted model arrived in 2020. One major factor of the rising popularity of Tata Nexon has to be the inclusion of sunroof in the XM(S) variant itself. This variant is priced at Rs 8.68 lakh, making it the most affordable car to have a sunroof in it.
The Tata Nexon can be had with either a 1.2-liter petrol (120 PS/170 Nm) or a 1.5-liter diesel (110 PS/260 Nm), both of which are being offered with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox options.
Honda Jazz
Think hatchbacks are functional and can’t have a sunroof? Think again. The new facelifted Honda Jazz launched in 2020 has got an electric sunroof in its top-spec ZX variant, which is priced at Rs 8.99 lakh. This makes the Honda Jazz the first mover in its segment to introduce a sunroof.
The Honda Jazz, in its facelifted avatar, is now available with a 1.2-liter petrol engine (90 PS/110 Nm) as the only engine option. This engine has been made available in the Honda Jazz with both the options of a 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox across all variants.
Hyundai i20
The Hyundai i20 has managed to mold the concept of premium hatchbacks perfectly in the Indian automotive market. Like all of its models, Hyundai has stuffed the new generation i20 with segment-best features, and the list includes sunroof as well. The feature of the sunroof is available in top-spec Asta (O) variant only, prices of which start at Rs 9.33 lakh.
The new generation Hyundai i20 is being offered with three powertrain options now – 1.2-liter petrol (83 PS/115 Nm, offered with 5-speed manual and CVT), 1.0-liter turbo petrol (120 PS/172 Nm, offered with 5-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT) and 1.5-liter diesel (100 PS/240 Nm, offered with only a 6-speed manual).
Honda WR-V
It was the Honda WR-V, which managed to introduce the feature of the sunroof in cross hatch and sub-four meter SUV segments for the first time. The facelifted Honda WR-V launched in 2020 manages to retain the feature, and like before, it is only available in the top-spec VX variant, which has a starting price of Rs 9.91 lakh.
The Honda WR-V can be had with either a 1.2-liter petrol (90 PS/110 Nm) or a 1.5-liter diesel (100 PS/200 Nm), both of which have a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard transmission.
Ford Ecosport
The first-ever sub-four meter SUV of India, Ford Ecosport, started coming with sunroof in its top-spec S variant, which was introduced in the facelifted model in 2018. However, Ford has now made the sunroof available in slightly lower-spec Titanium variant too, prices of which commence at Rs 9.99 lakh.
The Ford Ecosport, in its current guise, is available in two engine options to choose from – a 1.5-liter petrol (123 PS/149 Nm) and a 1.5-liter petrol (100 PS/215 Nm). While a 5-speed manual gearbox is standard in both the engine options, the petrol engine can also be had with a 6-speed automatic.
Hyundai Venue
The Hyundai Venue has taken Hyundai India amongst the list of top volume bringers in the country, and each and every variant of it has something to offer for a wide variety of customers. The sunroof in the list of features has been instrumental in the success of the Hyundai Venue, which is available from the SX variant itself, the starting price of which is Rs 10 lakh.
The Hyundai Venue is available with a host of powertrain options across its variant lineup – a 1.2-liter petrol (83 PS/115 Nm, available with a 5-speed manual), a 1.0-liter turbo petrol (120 PS/172 Nm, available with 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT) and a 1.5-liter diesel (100 PS/240 Nm, offered with a 6-speed manual).
Kia Sonet
Like its distant sibling Hyundai Venue, the Kia Sonet, which is based on the platform of the former, has become a raging success in the sub-four meter compact SUV space. The aggressive design and the long list of features have made the Kia Sonet a crowd favorite. One such feature preferred by all is the sunroof, which is available from the HTX variant offered at a starting price of Rs 10.29 lakh.
Like the Venue, the Kia Sonet too can be had with a host of powertrain options – a 1.2-liter petrol (83 PS/115 Nm, available with a 5-speed manual), a 1.0-liter turbo petrol (120 PS/172 Nm, available with 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT) and a 1.5-liter diesel (100 PS/240 Nm with a 6-speed manual and 115 PS/250 Nm with a 6-speed automatic).
Mahindra XUV300
Like its elder sibling, the XUV500, the smaller Mahindra XUV300 has managed to cement the position of Mahindra among the urban audience. At the time of its arrival, the Mahindra XUV300 surprised many with its several segment-first features. The sunroof also is present in the list of features, which now can be had from the W8 variant, the starting price of which is Rs 10.31 lakh.
There are two engine options offered in the Mahindra XUV300 – a 1.2-liter petrol engine (110 PS/200 Nm) and a 1.5-liter diesel (115 PS/300 Nm), both of which are class-leading in performance. The transmission options of 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT are offered with both the engines.
