Honda has given a subtle overhaul to its little mini motorcycle, the Monkey 125. The new version of the Honda Monkey 125 continues to get the same good old short stance with retro design theme from the ‘70s. However, the new motorcycle now gets a slew of new generation features and an updated engine, which now complies with Euro 5 emission norms.
2021 Honda Monkey 125: Design
The Honda Monkey 125 still retains the unique short looking stance reminiscent of the original Monkey 125 launched back in 1970. The motorcycle continues to adorn a retro look with bits like chrome finished round headlamp, front and rear mudguards, rear view mirrors and heat shield for the high mounted exhaust.
However, there are a few new generation features that have been included in the motorcycle as a part of this new update, such as an all-LED headlamp, tail lamp and turn indicators and full LCD instrument console. Other features of the Honda Monkey 125 include single piece padded seat, mini-ape handle bar, fat dual-purpose tyres, body-colored rear shock absorbers and 5.6-liter peanut-shaped small fuel tank with a 3-D classic red Honda logo.
2021 Honda Monkey 125: Powertrain
The new Honda Monkey 125 continues to get the same four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-valve, 124cc engine from its previous iteration. However, this time around, the engine is compliant to Euro 5 emission norms and makes 9.5 PS @ 6,750 rpm and 11 Nm @ 5,500 rpm.
The big change, however, comes in the form of a new 5-speed gearbox, which replaces the old 4-speed unit. The top speed and fuel efficiency of the new Honda Monkey 125 are claimed at 91 kmph and 67 kmpl respectively.
2021 Honda Monkey 125: Chassis
Despite its small dimensions and compact size, the Honda Monkey 125 gets top-notch mechanical hardware, the list of which includes upside down hydraulic telescopic forks at front, fully adjustable dual shock absorbers with new damper rubbers and two-stage springs at the rear and 220mm front disc and 190mm rear disc brakes. The motorcycle rides on fat rubbers shod on small 12-inch black alloy wheels. With a seat height of 775mm and a wheelbase of 1,145mm, the Honda Monkey 125 tips the weighing scales at just 104 kg.
2021 Honda Monkey 125: Variants and Colors
The new Honda Monkey 125 will be offered in a single variant with three color options, namely Pearl Nebula Red, Banana Yellow and Pearl Glittering Blue. The updated motorcycle is currently made available for sale only in European markets, and it is highly unlikely that it will be launched in India.
