Yamaha has launched the updated version of the MT-15 naked roadster. It is the first time that the Yamaha MT-15 has received an update. The new version of the motorcycle, which is being called Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0, gets a couple of new features, mechanical changes and new colour options. The new version of the Yamaha MT-15 now starts at Rs 1.60 lakh, thus making it almost Rs 13,000 more expensive than the previously available version.
2022 Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0 – Price and Colours
The new Yamaha MT-15 is now available in four colour options – Ice Fluo Vermillion, Metallic Black, Cyan Storm and Racing Blue, out of which the last two colour options are new to the MT-15 lineup. All the colour options are now available in dual-tone schemes and have different colours for alloy wheels. While the Ice Fluo Vermillion shade is available at Rs 1.60 lakh, the other three colour options are priced at Rs 1.61 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
2022 Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0 – What’s new?
Apart from the new colour options, the new Yamaha MT-15 now comes with golden-finished 37mm upside-down hydraulic telescopic forks at the front. It was considered to be an obvious update in the new version since the YZF-R15 also got them in the most recent update introduced in 2021.
In addition to this, the new MT-15 also comes with a Moto-GP-inspired aluminium swing-arm at the back, in place of the box-section swing-arm of the previous model. The new front and rear suspension units are expected to make the overall riding dynamics of the motorcycle much better than before.
Apart from the revised suspension setup, the new Yamaha MT15 also gets a revised instrument console. The negative LCD instrument console, which used to come with a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer, trip meters, gear indicators, average fuel consumption, instantaneous fuel consumption and range, now also is compatible with Yamaha Y-Connect App. The console now displays calls, SMS, e-mail, app connectivity and phone battery level status. The customers of the new MT-15 will also have an access to a dedicated mobile application, through which they can monitor fuel consumption, last parking status, engine RPM, maintenance record, malfunction alerts and riding behaviour.
2022 Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0 – What’s retained?
There are no changes to the basic design and engine of the Yamaha MT-15 in this new version. The motorcycle continues to come with a robot-like front face with daytime running LEDs and LED projector headlamp, LED tail lamp, engine cut-off feature in the side stand, and 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc brakes. Yamaha hasn’t made changes to the four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 155cc engine, which it shares with the R15 V4.0. Coupled with a 6-speed gearbox, this engine produces 18.4 PS of maximum power and 14.1 Nm of maximum torque outputs.
2022 Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0 – Competition
The new Yamaha MT-15, just like before, is positioned in a niche segment, and compares itself with the similarly-priced motorcycles with bigger engines, such as Bajaj Pulsar N250 and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V.
