Komaki Ranger India’s First Electric Cruiser Motorcycle Debut Soon
Komaki Electric Vehicles, a New Delhi based EV startup has announced that it will be coming up with an all-electric cruiser motorcycle, the Ranger, in January 2022. The Komaki Ranger is claimed to be the first-ever electric cruiser in the Indian two-wheeler market, which will be joining the four electric scooter lineup of Komaki, including TN95 and SE, for India. Here are all the details you need to know about the Komaki Ranger, which is going to intensify the competition in the electric motorcycle segment:
Design and Features
At first glance, the Komaki Ranger looks like a traditional cruiser, which makes it a handsome looking motorcycle. The motorcycle comes with a rounded LED headlamp encased in chrome-finished housing, which is accompanied by additional rounded LED lights in similar-looking chrome housings. The orange-coloured rounded turn indicators add to the overall retro-themed fascia of the Ranger.
Like a typical cruiser, the Komaki Ranger comes with a curved handlebar, beyond which there is a single-pod instrument console, which to is encased in a chrome-finished panel. There is additional chrome garnish on the tank, below which the motorcycle gets its entire motor and battery setup finished in a theme of gloss black. The bike gets faux dual exhausts and different alloy wheel designs for both front and rear wheels. Interestingly, the faux exhaust pipes produce fake roaring exhausts of a traditional cruiser.
Towards the rear, the Komaki Ranger also gets sleek-looking panniers on either side of the pillion seat. The motorcycle gets dual tan-coloured seats with studded design on its sides, a tan-coloured backrest for the pillion rider and a simple looking tail lamp and chrome-finished rounded turn indicators. Additional features of the Komaki Ranger include reverse gear, Bluetooth connectivity for phone calls and music streaming, cruise control and a repair switch.
Mechanical Specifications
While the design of the Komaki Ranger looks very much like a conventional cruiser, the powertrain under the skin is something that we have never seen in a cruiser motorcycle in India. The Ranger sources its power from a 5 kW electric motor, which channels the power to a rear wheel via a belt drive. Komaki hasn’t disclosed the maximum speed of the motorcycle as of now.
The 4 kWh lithium-ion battery of the Komaki Ranger claims a maximum riding range of 250 km. It will make the Komaki Ranger the two-wheeler with the biggest battery on offer, which offers the longest riding range for an electric two-wheeler. In terms of suspension, the Komaki Ranger gets a conventional setup of telescopic forks at the front and double hydraulic coil springs at the rear, just like a conventional motorcycle.
Competition
The Komaki Ranger arrives in India just at the time when the electric two-wheeler space is heating up with the arrival of new-generation scooters like Ather 450X, Ola S1, Bajaj Chetak, Simple One and TVS iQube. However, there are very few electric motorcycles available in India right now, with the Revolt RV400 being the biggest name right now. Compared to the naked roadster like styling of the RV400, the Komaki Ranger will offer a more premium stance of a cruiser.
