Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG launched in India, can be started directly in CNG mode unlike rivals

Tata Motors is making all the right moves in 2022 as well. Soon after bringing the Dark Edition for Tata Safari, Tata has rolled in the CNG-powered versions of its compact offerings, Tiago and Tigor. With these new versions, Tata Motors has officially entered the market of CNG-powered cars, which was dominated only by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai to date.

Variants and Colours

Unlike Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, Tata Motors is giving multiple options by launching two or more CNG-powered variants of the Tiago and Tigor CNG. Here is the complete price list of all the CNG-powered Tiago and Tigor:

Tata Tiago CNG

• XE – Rs 6.09 lakh
• XM – Rs 6.39 lakh
• XT – Rs 6.69 lakh
• XZ+ – Rs 7.52 lakh

Tata Tigor CNG

• XZ – Rs 7.69 lakh
• XZ+ – Rs 8.29 lakh

These prices do make the CNG-powered variants almost Rs 90,000 more expensive than their petrol-only counterparts. The Tata Tiago CNG is being offered in the colour options of Flame Red, Arizona Blue, Pearlescent White, Daytona Grey and Midnight Plum, the last one of which is exclusively available only for the top-spec XZ+ variant. Meanwhile, the Tata Tiago CNG is available in the colour options of Magnetic Red, Deep red, Arizona Blue, Pure Silver, Opal White and Daytona Grey.

Exterior changes

The only visual difference which the CNG-powered versions of both the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG wear over their petrol-only counterparts is the ‘i-CNG’ badge on the boot lid of both the cars.

However, Tata Motors has used this opportunity to tweak both cars with additional features on the outside. For both petrol and CNG versions, the Tata Tiago now gets the same front fascia as that of the Tigor, which means that it gets projector headlamps and daytime running LEDs on the range-topping versions. Apart from this, the Tiago gets 15-inch silver alloy wheels, which are different from the dual-tone alloy wheels of the Tiago.

Interior changes

The CNG-powered versions of both Tiago and Tigor get a mildly revised instrument console with a display for CNG level as well. In addition, the standard changes introduced for both petrol and CNG versions of Tiago and Tigor are dual-tone black and beige upholstery in the XZ+ variants. The XZ+ variants of the Tigor now also get automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.

The addition of a CNG tank in the boot compartment has eaten up the boot space of both cars. While the Tiago CNG’s boot space is now restricted to 80 litres, that of the Tigor CNG drops down to 205 litres.

Powertrain

The powertrains of the CNG-powered versions of both the cars are based on the regular versions of the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine. Here, they are available with only a 5-speed manual gearbox and pump out 73 bhp of maximum power and 95 Nm of maximum torque. The additional CNG kit has also upped the weight of both cars by around 100 kg. Both the cars are claiming a fuel efficiency of 26.49 km/kg and can be started directly in CNG mode, unlike their rivals.

Competition

With its longer lineup of variants, the Tata Tiago offers more choices over its direct rivals, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG, Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG and Hyundai Santro CNG. Meanwhile, the only direct rival of the Tata Tigor CNG is the Hyundai Aura CNG.
