With the Ntorq 125, TVS has nailed its presence as a segment leader in the performance-oriented 125cc scooter category, which of late has gained a lot of popularity, especially among younger college-goers. The edgy styling, thrilling performance and agile riding dynamics have made it a crowd favourite. TVS itself has always upped the ante by frequently introducing updates to this scooter. And here we have got another one – the new TVS Ntorq 125 XT.
The new TVS Ntorq 125 is now the new range-topping variant of the entire Ntorq lineup offered in India and gets a significant price gap with the next variant in the lineup. However, TVS claims that the new Ntorq 125 XT will be a game-changer in the 125cc scooter category, with a few new first-in-class features.
Price
TVS has introduced the new Ntorq 125 XT at Rs 1.03 lakh. With this price, it is almost Rs 14,000 pricier than the erstwhile top-spec variant, the Ntorq 125 Race XP (Rs 89,211). The other variants of Ntorq on sale in India are Super Squad Edition (Rs 87,661), Race Edition (Rs 85,161), Disc (Rs 81,561) and Drum (Rs 77,106).

Design
TVS has introduced two key changes in the Ntorq 125 XT over the regular variants of the scooter. First is the all-new dual-tone shade of Matte Blue with Neon Yellow, with striking yellow and grey coloured body decals. The new paint scheme makes the already edgy-looking body panels even sharper and eye-catching in appearance. It should be noted that this is the only colour scheme on offer in this new variant.
The other significant change is the new design for the 12-inch alloy wheels. TVS claims that the new alloy wheels are lighter than the dual-tone alloy wheels present in other variants of the Ntorq, which help in enhancing both the fuel efficiency and handling of the scooter.
Apart from these two changes, TVS has retained the original design of the scooter, with the front-apron mounted LED headlamp with daytime running LEDs, handlebar cowl with turn indicators, LED tail lamp, clip-on handlebars, alloy footrests for pillion rider and handlebar-end weights.
Features and Electronic Riding Aids
The biggest highlight and talking point of the new TVS Ntorq 125 XT is its new instrument console, which has a unique twin-digital hybrid screen layout never seen on a mass-oriented scooter before. The revised housing now comes with two rectangular screens, with one TFT screen on the left and one LCD screen on the right. With this, the Ntorq 125 XT becomes the first locally-manufactured scooter in India to get a TFT screen in its instrument console.
This new TFT screen offers a bundle of features which were unheard of in a two-wheeler. Apart from the standard Bluetooth connectivity, which offers call and SMS alerts and turn-by-turn navigation, the TFT screen alerts the rider about the social media notifications, cricket and football scores, food delivery tracking, weather forecasts, and AQI data and ride statistics, including lap timer. The instrument console is also compatible with a new voice command feature, which can be switched on by long-pressing a switch on the right-hand side. Using this, the rider can give voice commands to the scooter to change the riding modes, operate navigation and adjust the brightness of the screen. Through this feature, the scooter can also alert the rider about low fuel warnings, low phone battery and fuel consumption alerts.
The LCD screen on the right-hand side of the instrument console shows speed, fuel level, odometer, trip meters and ride statistics. In addition to the revised instrument console, the Ntorq 125 XT also gets the exclusivity of having TVS’ IntelliGo stop-start system in the overall lineup of Ntorq.
Engine and Transmission
In a surprising move, the TVS Ntorq 125 XT gets the four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 124.8cc engine in its lower state of tune, and not the more powerful version offered in the Race XP. Like in the other variants barring the Race XP, the engine of the Ntorq 125 XT produces 9.38 bhp of maximum power and 10.5 Nm of maximum torque. On the other hand, the Ntorq 125 Race XP continues to be the most powerful version of the Ntorq, as its engine produces 10.2 bhp of maximum power and 10.8 Nm of maximum torque.
Chassis
Under the skin, in addition to the engine, the TVS Ntorq 125 XT also retains the chassis of the other variants of the Ntorq. Sitting on a high rigidity underbone tubular frame, the Ntorq 125 XT gets telescopic forks with hydraulic dampers at the front and a coil spring with hydraulic dampers at the rear. Riding on 12-inch wheels at both the ends equipped with 100/80-12 tyre at the front and 110/80-12 tyre at the rear, the Ntorq 125 XT is equipped with a 220mm disc brake at the front as standard and a 130mm drum brake at the rear
Conclusion
For the additional Rs 13,000 over the XP, the TVS Ntorq 125 XT gets a cool-looking instrument console with added features, IntelliGO start-stop system, lighter alloy wheels with different designs and a new paint scheme. In our opinion, the price difference is too steep, considering that all the additional features in the new instrument console are useful but are going to be gimmicky most of the time. In addition to it, it is powered by the detuned version of the engine, and not the more powerful one available in the Race XP.
So if you are truly fascinated by the additional features of the new instrument console and think that they are going to add utility to your ownership experience, the Ntorq 125 XT can be considered.
