Putting an end to the long wait, Volkswagen has finally launched the much-awaited Virtus sedan in India. Brought in as a replacement for the Vento sedan, the new Volkswagen Virtus has been launched at a starting price of Rs 11.21 lakh (ex-showroom, India). With this launch, the Virtus has become the fourth model after Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Slavia to be based on Volkswagen Auto Group’s India-specific MQB A0-IN platform.
In addition to launching the Virtus, Volkswagen has also introduced new warranty and service packages for the sedan. For four years, Volkswagen is offering service packages worth Rs 20,388 for the 1.0-litre TSI variants and Rs 22,881 for the single 1.5-litre variant. While the Virtus is being offered with a four years/1,00,000 km warranty as standard, it can be extended up to seven years/1,50,000 km for Rs 11,525.

2022 Volkswagen Virtus – Exterior
The Volkswagen Virtus is a clear evolution over the Vento it replaces, by being a more modern and bigger sedan over the latter. It also looks sleeker, which is evident in its slimmer front grille and all-LED headlamps with daytime running LEDs, wider lower air dame with bigger fog lamps and bigger and sharper looking all-LED tail lamps.
The Virtus is available in two variant lines – Dynamic Line, which comprises Comfortline, Highline and Topline variants, and the Performance Line, which is essentially the single GT variant. Both the variant lines come with a chrome-garnished front grille and lower air dam. However, while the Dynamic Line has a body-coloured roof and rear view mirrors, black brake callipers and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, the Performance Line looks sportier with blacked-out rear view mirrors and roof, red brake callipers and black alloy wheels.
2022 Volkswagen Virtus – Interior
On the inside, while the Dynamic Line variants sport dual-tone black and beige upholstery, the Performance Line offers an all-black cabin with red detailing on the dashboard, contrast red stitching and aluminium pedals. The cabin looks properly modern with a new-generation three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, 8-inch full-TFT instrument console, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Volkswagen Connect and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and touch-controlled panel for automatic climate control, all of which are shared with the Taigun SUV.
The other features which make the Volkswagen Virtus feel premium and new-age are an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, cooled glovebox, leather seats, 60:40 split rear seats, push start-stop button, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlamps. The Virtus is also packed with safety features like six airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold control, tyre pressure monitoring system and reverse parking camera and sensors.
2022 Volkswagen Virtus – Engine and Transmission
The Volkswagen Virtus shares both its engine and transmission options with the other three vehicles based on the MQB A0-IN platform. The Dynamic Line variants are powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine, which produces 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard for all the three variants – Comfortline, Highline and Topline, though the Highline and Topline variants also come with an optional 6-speed torque converter.
The GT variant offered in Performance Line spec is offered solely with a combination of a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG) gearbox. This engine makes 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque and features cylinder deactivation technology for minimizing fuel consumption.
2022 Volkswagen Virtus – Competitors
Apart from its distant cousin based on the same platform, the Skoda Slavia, the new Volkswagen Virtus will also compete with fifth-generation Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
