After hearing thousands of pleas to launch an electric version of the compact hatchback Tiago, Tata Motors has finally answered all of them by launching the all-new Tiago EV. With a starting price of Rs 8.49 lakh, the Tata Tiago EV has become the most affordable electric vehicle in India. However, the prices are introductory, which are reserved only for the first 10,000 units to be sold. Out of these 10,000 units, 8,000 units are reserved for the existing Tata electric vehicle owners, who are already owning the Tigor EV, Nexon EV or XPress-T EV.
The Tata Tiago EV gets the same exterior and interior designs retained from its petrol-powered version. However, like the Tigor EV and Nexon EV, the Tiago EV also gets a host of blue highlights and minute visual tweaks to make sure that it has a different identity from the petrol version. The new Tiago EV is offered with two battery pack options – there’s a smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack in the entry-level XE and XT variants and a bigger 24 kWh battery pack in the XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux variants. The MIDC-claimed ranges of these batteries are 250 km for the 19.2 kWh battery and 315 km for the 24 kWh battery.
There are two electric motor options available in the Tiago EV. The smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack in the XE and XT variants is paired to a 45 kW motor that develops 105 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the larger 55 kW motor paired to the 24 kWh battery pack in the XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux churns out 114 Nm of peak torque output. There are five colour options to choose from for the Tiago EV – Tropical Mist, Teal Blue, Daytona Grey, Pristine White and Midnight Plum.
