The Next-Gen Maruti Wagon R will be based on the new Heartect platform and may come in its first ever diesel powered avatar.
One of the legendary cars in Maruti Suzuki’s stable, the Wagon R, has been yearning for a new look for a long time. And finally, the company has accepted the car’s plea! You heard it right, as Maruti Suzuki will launch the next-generation Wagon R this year in India. Of late, a camouflaged Wagon R was spied undergoing road test and it has not been a week yet, again we saw an uncovered Wagon R undergoing road test in NCR, Delhi.
What’s special in the Next-generation Maruti Wagon R? Well, the New-Generation Wagon R is very likely to be based on company’s Heartect platform, thus being lighter in weight. The recently launched cars by Maruti Suzuki that include the Baleno, the Dzire and the 2018 Swift were also built on the Heartect platform.
Next Generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR Spied Testing In India
You may find the next-gen Wagon R quite a familiar guy, possessing that iconic tall-boy styling. However, the headlamps are bit stretched at the sides, though aren’t as vibrant as its Japanese-spec. At the front, there is a four-slat chrome grille along with an extended front bumper. However, fog lamps were not featured in the spied mule. The side profile was similar to the currently sold Stingray, nothing nonsense, just the set of steel wheels with wheel covers. To some, the rear may appear to be a bit boxy, but it gets wooed by a set of squared and tall LED tail lights. The bumper at the rear is too simple but isn’t ugly either. Overall, you will find the 2019 Wagon R a modern day car, however, if you were expecting a big makeover from this little hatch, like the Dzire, your expectations are high.
Inside, like the present day Maruti cars, and what we saw in the Celerio X, the next-generation Maruti Wagon R will get features like ABS and Airbags as standard. To an extent, the cabins will be refreshed and you may see a new infotainment system with a decent sized screen placed inside.
Under the bonnet, the new Wagon R 2019 may continue to generate power through the existing 1.0L K-Series petrol motor that produces 67bhp peak power and 90Nm peak torque. Anticipations are also that for the first time, a new diesel engine might make its way under the hood. We’re wondering if it is going to be Maruti Suzuki’s solely developed diesel engine rather than 1.3L DDiS Multijet powertrain borrowed from Fiat. You can expect the petrol powered Wagon R to go on sale initially, followed by the BSIV diesel motor.
Speculations are that the New Wagon R will be out for sale in the Indian auto-market sometime around the festive season.
