Tata Motors has showcased the Altroz EV at the 2020 Auto Expo. The unveiled Tata Altroz EV is the production version.
Tata has taken the cover off from its much-awaited all-electric version of Altroz hatchback. The Altroz EV first appeared at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in a concept form. And now, it has been unveiled in the full-fledged production version. Let’s break down everything about this car in the sections below:
Exteriors
The hatchback looks nearly similar to its alter ego except for a few tweaks here and there. The car is based on ALFA Arc platform which stands for Agile, Light, Flexible and Advanced. At the front, the Altroz EV features new design elements such as dual LED headlights and reshaped bumpers with blue finishing on the beltline. The front grille is identical to the standard Altroz but does not come with any air vents as there is no IC engine under the hood.
At the sides, the car gets a distinct set of alloys while at the rear, the taillights get split LED setup linked with black plastic trim.
Interiors
The new Altroz EV carries similar identity inside the cabin as well. The dashboard is almost akin to the standard car, save for blue accents around the aircons and on the central console. The central console flaunts a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Other premium features of Altroz EV include Harman stereo system, connected car tech, cruise control, automatic ac, rear ac vents, ambient lighting and colored multi-information display. The car features cool rotary knob at the center armrest for gear selection instead of the regular gear knob.
Safety Features
Coming to the safety aspects, as standard Altroz is already garnering countrywide praise for grabbing 5-star safety rating, the EV version is also expected to come with the same score. The premium hatch is loaded with dual airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), rear camera with rear parking sensors, co-driver seat belt warning and high-speed alert.
Engine and Performance
Now coming to the most important aspect of this car i.e. the powertrain. The car shares its battery pack and electric motor from the Nexon EV known as Ziptron. It’s an IP67 rated battery which means it is dust and waterproof. The power figures are not out yet but it is expected that the battery pack would pump out similar 129PS and 245Nm of torque as it does in Nexon EV.
There are two driving modes provided — Drive and Sport — to suit different driving conditions. In a single charge, the car claims to run 300kms. It will be coupled with a three-pin wall-mounted charger along with 25kW fast charger to juice up the vehicle from 0-80 in just around one hour.
Pricing and Launch Date
The Tata Altroz EV price in India is expected to start around Rs. 14 lakhs. The launch will happen sometime at the end of this year and it will lock horns against Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz in the market.
