Mercedes V-Class Marco Polo Launched at Rs. 1.38 Cr.

Mercedes-Benz has launched one of its kind camper vehicle for the Indian market. The new Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo is the latest addition to the luxury range of V-Class MPVs launched by the German giant in recent times. Sitting at the top of the V-Class range, the Marco Polo variants – Horizon and Standard are priced at Rs. 1.38 crore and Rs. 1.46 crore, respectively (both prices ex-showroom).

Expressive Exteriors

In terms of exterior design, the Marco Polo conveys that practical cars can be good looking. It is nearly identical to the V-Class with nice detailing in adaptive LED headlamps, moulded bumpers and huge grille with Merc logo in the centre highlighting the camper van image. The Marco Polo just adds a removable lid above the rear-left fender. And that is for the supplementary power input and water bay for the sink, rest all is ditto.

The German automaker has provided a similar set of smart alloy wheels, flattish body panels and glossy metallic paint. The things at the rear end look largely squarish in appearance with LED taillights and the chrome applique in the centre uplifting the expressive image. In terms of dimensions, it measures the same 5,140mm in length, 1,928mm in width, 1,901mm in height and a large wheelbase of 3,200mm.

Interiors – Feel at Home

The main highlight of this vehicle is its sheer combination of practicality and pleasure. The vehicle is a perfect choice for camping outdoors. When the car is in camper mode, it is capable of absorbing four people and comes equipped with a sofa cum bed, a folding table, a wardrobe, fully integrated kitchenette and 40L fridge.

In terms of seating and comfort, one can really declare independence here. The vehicle is loaded with a seater bench cum comfort berth, pop-up roof with roof bed for up to five people, a sociable seating area and individual seating comfort with the special twist. The last row of the seats can also be turned into a cosy bed.

Further, the seats are eightfold manually adjustable and can be rotated up to 180 degrees. The vehicle also features unique loading bay, roof stowage compartment, tilting/sliding glass sunroof, infotainment system, ambient lighting as well as easy pack tailgate.

Engine and performance

Powering this mobile home is the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine which is capable of generating 163PS and 380Nm of peak torque, coupled with 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission.

Competition

The vehicle doesn’t have any direct competitor in the Indian market as of yet, it does have a rival in the international market in the form of Volkswagen California. So, it means the car would be playing safe for a while in the Indian market.
