In a series of updating its entire portfolio for the Indian market, BMW has brought in the updated version of the 5-Series sedan. The new BMW 5-Series, with a host of visual tweaks and feature additions, will now be offered in a total of three different variants – 530i M Sport, 520d and 530d M Sport, prices of which start at Rs. 62.90 lakh. In addition to launching the car, BMW has also announced a 50% discount on exclusive M Sport accessories and merchandise for those customers who book the M Sport variants on or before 24th July, 2021.
Exterior Changes
BMW has subtly updated the new 5-Series’s exterior design, which makes it a much sleeker looking car than the outgoing model. The new BMW 5-Series gets revised and bigger dual kidney chrome grille, updated laser headlamps with dual L-shaped daytime running LEDs, revised and slimmer LED tail lamp and new 18-inch alloy wheels (19-inch wheels are offered as optional equipment). The front and rear bumpers too have restyled, thus making it look more aggressive. The color options in which the new BMW 5-Series has been made available are Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver, Carbon Black, Mineral White, Phytonic Blue and Bluestone.
Interior Changes
The interior cabin of the BMW 5-Sereis has mildly updated, with the layout resembling that of the other latest offerings from BMW. The list of features is quite long too, with the new version of the 5-Series getting top-notch features like 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with BMW virtual assistant and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 12.3-inch full TFT ‘control display’ instrument console, ambient lighting, Harman Kardon surround sound system, four zone automatic climate control with touch-controlled panel, powered and ventilated front seats, electric sunroof, i-drive click-wheel controller, paddle shifters, rear sunshades and 360-degree camera.
Powertrain Options
The updated BMW 5-Series gets three different engine options, all of which are being offered in three different variants. The entry level 530i M Sport gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four petrol engine, which makes 250 PS @ 5,200 rpm of power and 350 Nm @ 4,800 rpm of torque. Then comes the 520d, which gets a 2.0-liter inline four diesel engine capable of putting up 190 PS @ 4,000 rpm of power and 400 Nm @ 2,500 rpm of torque. The range topping 530 M Sport is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six diesel engine, which belts out 265 PS @ 4,000 rpm of power and 620 Nm @ 2,500 rpm of torque. An 8-speed automatic gearbox and rear wheel drivetrain is standard across the entire range.
Variants, Pricing and Competition
The entire range of the updated BMW 5-Series, which consists of one petrol and two diesel powered variants, commences at Rs. 62.90 lakh. At this price, the BMW 5-Series witnesses a fresh competition from the updated versions of Mercedes Benz E-Class and Audi A6 as well as Jaguar XF.
