Norton V4SV Fully Faired Sport Bike Revealed, brought in as a replacement to the V4SS

After its acquisition by TVS in 2020, Norton has launched its first fully faired superbike, the all-new V4SV. Brought in as a replacement to the ageing V4SS, the new Norton V4SV will be the British motorcycle maker’s new flagship offering for its global lineup. With the new V4SV, Norton claims that it has combined its extensive racing experience with everything they know what a race-biker can demand from a road bike.

Design and Features

There is extensive use of carbon fibre in the overall design of the Norton V4SV. All the body panels of the motorcycles, including the nicely sculpted front full fairing, front fender, tailpiece and fuel tank are made of carbon fibre. The optional ‘Carbon’ variant of the motorcycle also comes with alloy wheels made completely of carbon fibre. This extensive use of carbon fibre makes the Norton V4SV an expensive and lightweight motorcycle. In a typical Norton fashion, the aluminium tube frame of the Norton V4SV is polished to get a mirror-like finish.

The design highlights of the Norton V4SV include an extremely curvy design for the front fairing, dual rounded headlamp housings, windshield, fairing-mounted rearview mirrors and fuel tank. The short tailpiece integrating the single-piece seat of the motorcycle makes the Norton V4SV look like a race-ready motorcycle. The V4SV also comes with a single-sided billet swingarm with rising-rate linkage geometry, red-coloured five-spoke alloy wheels, all-LED illumination all around. The bike also comes equipped with a 6-inch full TFT instrument console which doubles as a display for the reverse camera, three different riding modes, keyless ignition, cornering traction control, cornering ABS and quick-shifter. While the motorcycle has been previewed with a track-oriented exhaust, the road-spec version will come with a cleaner and quieter exhaust pipe.

Powertrain

The Norton V4SV has been given the same liquid-cooled, V4, 1,200cc engine which used to power the erstwhile flagship, the V4SS. However, as compared to the 200 bhp of power and 130 Nm of torque produced by the V4SS, the engine employed in the V4SV is slightly less powerful with power and torque figures rated at 187.5 bhp and 125 Nm respectively. However, the engine continues to get the same setup of twin injectors per cylinder, slipper clutch, the compression ratio of 13.6:1 and titanium inlet valves as before.

Chassis

The Norton V4SV sits on the same aluminium frame which used to underpin the older V4SS. Even the Brembo disc brakes and suspension combination of Ohlins NIX 30 upside down hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and Ohlins TTX GP mono-shock have been retained from the older motorcycle. The motorcycle also comes equipped with billet-machined footpegs and yokes, which make the overall aura of the motorcycle feel very premium.

Price and Availability

While Norton hasn’t announced the prices of the V4SV, expect the motorcycle to be priced around the price point of £44,000 (Rs 40.88 lakh), at which the V4SS was made available. There are rare chances that the Norton V4SV will be brought to the Indian market.
