To affirm its position in the commuter-oriented market of two-wheelers in Malaysia, Honda has brought in the new RS-X 150 underbone bike. Aimed at Kapchai enthusiasts, the new Honda RS-X takes on the underbone bike segment with a sharper new design and modern features. Boon Siew Honda, the official distributor of Honda for the Malaysian two-wheeler market, has launched the new RS-X at an ex-showroom price of Rs 8,688, thus making it one of the more affordable options among sporty underbones.
Design and Features
The design of the new Honda RS-X has been altered keeping the younger audience in mind, who prefer sharper-looking bikes as compared to conventional and mature looking ones. The front apron of the RS-X now looks pointier and comes integrated with a dual-LED headlamp setup. The revised front end also features new LED turn indicators and body decals. Even the rear end of the Honda RS-X has been revised with a new tail design which gets a full LED tail lamp this time.
Apart from these design changes, Honda has included a couple of new generation features like a fully digital instrument console, a new contour-shaped long seat and relocated seat opener switch which is placed on the handlebar itself, all of which add to the convenience of the rider. The new Honda RS-X is on sale with three colour options on offer, namely Candy Caribbean Blue Sea, Lemon Ice Yellow and Trico Edition (Honda’s signature tricolour option of red, white and blue).
Powertrain
Powering the revised looking Honda RS-X is the same old four-stroke, single-cylinder, DOHC, four-valve, liquid-cooled, 149.2cc engine which used to be the heart of the previous model as well. Coupled with a 6-speed gearbox, the engine produces maximum power and torque outputs of 15.8 bhp @ 9,000 rpm and 13.6 Nm @ 7,000 rpm. These performance figures do make the Honda RS-X one of the most powerful underbone bikes currently on sale in the country.
Chassis
The Honda RS-X measures 2,019 mm long, 727 mm wide and 1,104 mm tall while having a wheelbase of 1,278 mm, a seat height of 795 mm, ground clearance of 148 mm and a kerb weight of 122 kg. Sitting on a twin-tube frame, the Honda RS-X gets a suspension combination of conventional hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and a pre-load adjustable mono-shock at the back. Riding on 17-inch alloy wheels which are shod with 90/80-17 tyre at the front and 120/70-17 tyre at the rear, both of which are tubeless, the Honda RS-X can be brought to a halt using a disc brake setup at both the ends. For safety, the Honda RS-X is equipped with a cost-effective single-channel ABS at the front wheel.
Will it come to India?
India is not a market for underbone bikes as of now, and with no plans from two-wheeler makers in the hindsight, the Honda RS-X is unexpected to arrive at the Indian shores.
