All-New Second Generation of Maruti Suzuki Celerio Launched in India, Prices Start at Rs 4.99 Lakh

After a long silent pause without any significant launch, Maruti Suzuki has taken the wraps off from the all-new second-generation Celerio. The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio is a radical departure from the previous generation model, for it gets an all-new design language for the exterior, a completely different cabin with added features and a new engine under its hood. The new Celerio is available in four trim levels, with the starting price set at Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Variants and Pricing

In addition to the previously available LXI, VXI and ZXI variants, Maruti Suzuki has added a new range-topping ZXI+ variant to the lineup of the Celerio. Most of the new comfort and convenience features added to the Celerio are available in this new ZXI+ variant. Except for the base LXI variant, all the other three variants are available with a 5-speed AMT as well. Following are the prices of all the variants of the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio:

The six different colour options with which the new Celerio has been launched are Arctic White, Silky Silver, Glistening Grey, Caffeine Brown, Speedy Blue and Fire Red. The chief competitors of the new Celerio will be Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and Datsun Go.

Exterior

Gone is the slightly angular and tall boy design of the previous generation model and in comes a more rounded approach for the design of the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio. The overall design of the new Celerio makes it look like a bigger evolved form of the Alto, with the rounded influence visible in its overall silhouette, headlamp and tail lamp design, front grille and front fog lamp housings. There is a nice strip of chrome flowing across the width of the grille and extending towards the inner edges of the headlamps. The top-spec ZXI+ variant gets modern bits like blacked-out B-pillar, black-coloured 15-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps and rear wiper, washer and defogger.

Interior

The cabin of the Maruti Suzuki Celeio has been completely revamped too, with a new dashboard and centre console design and a new driver’s cockpit with a different multi-functional tilt-adjustable wheel and instrument console, which also gets a tachometer now. The cabin has been spruced up with new generation features like a push start-stop button, height-adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable and foldable rearview mirrors and 7-inch Smartplay Studio touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

The new Celerio retains the length (3,695mm) and height (1,555mm) of its previous generation model. However, an increase of 55mm in width (1,655mm) and 10mm in wheelbase (2,435mm) brings in added knee room, legroom and shoulder room in the cabin. The other areas where the Celerio has gained improvements are 10mm higher ground clearance (170mm) and 78 litres of added boot space (313 litres).

Engine and Transmission

There is a major change under the hood as well, for the new Celerio gets a new 1.0-litre K10C three-cylinder Dualjet petrol engine. Essentially the naturally aspirated version of the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine which was offered in the now-defunct Baleno RS, the new engine makes 67 bhp of maximum power and 89 Nm of maximum torque. While the new engine is 1 bhp and 1 Nm less than the previous engine, it is much better fuel-efficient, with the ARAI claimed figure of 26.68 kmpl. Like before, the Ceelrio will be available with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox choices.
