Alongside the arrival of its first all-electric offering for the Indian car market in the face of Taycan, Porsche pulled off a surprise by giving a facelift to its most affordable model in India, the Macan. The revised Porsche Macan has been launched with subtle changes in and out while receiving a hefty bump in its price, which now starts at Rs 83.21 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Variants and Pricing
The updated Porsche Macan will be available in a total of three variants – Macan, Macan S and Macan GTS, with the latter two being more sport-oriented versions as per the Porsche’s traditions. Compared to the erstwhile starting price of Rs 68.14 lakh for the Macan, the new price for the same variant is now set at Rs 83.21 lakh. The prices for the Macan S and Macan GTS are yet to be announced.
Exterior Changes
With the new design updates on the outside, Porsche has tried to bring the Macan more in line with the latest design trends being followed for all of its models. The exterior changes which are standard across all the variants are a revised front grille featuring body-coloured inserts, new LED headlamps with re-profiled daytime running LEDs, a new rear diffuser and bigger alloy wheels. Like before, the GTS variant gets added sporty elements like black inserts all around and a distinctive rear diffuser. What’s not changed is the coupe-like design for this SUV, which makes it look like a baby Cayenne.
Interior Changes
To make it look and feel more up-to-date, the cabin of the new Porsche Macan has got a redesigned centre console, which has a touch-sensitive panel for controlling various car functions, including automatic climate control and various drive and suspension settings. All these controls replace the old-school buttons of the previous model and operate with a haptic touch and are illuminated. Even the gear selector lever is redesigned to make the centre console look less cluttered than before.
The 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system of the Porsche Macan has got a software update that finally supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Other new prominent feature additions include Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), sport Chrono package and air suspension (only for GTS variant) and a wide range of personalization options.
Powertrain
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine from the previous version of the standard Porsche Macan has been tweaked for the new facelifted version of the SUV. Result? The power output is now rated at 265 bhp, making it 20 bhp more powerful than the older model. This variant does 0-100 kmph in 6.2 seconds and touches a top speed of 232 kmph.
The mid-spec Porsche Macan S gets a new 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine in place of the 3.0-litre turbo-petrol V6 engine of the previous version. However, with the maximum power output of 380 bhp, it is almost 26 bhp more powerful than before. This engine catapults this SUV from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.6 seconds.
This new V6 engine is there in the Porsche Macan GTS too. However, it has been re-tuned to make more power output, which now stands at 440 bhp – that’s almost 60 bhp more than before. It is the most powerful variant of the Macan lineup, with a claimed 0-100 kmph timing of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 272 kmph.
All the variants of the Porsche Macan get a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and all-wheel-drive as standard.
Competition
With its sporty genes and premium appeal, the Porsche Macan takes on the SUVs which offer similar intent, such as Mercedes GLC Coupe, BMW X4, Land Rover Range Rover Velar and Jaguar F-Pace.
