Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG Debuts in India at Rs 79.50 Lakh, Gets World’s Most Powerful 2.0-Litre Engine

Mercedes-Benz has brought back the A-Class hatchback to the Indian soil, albeit in a full-blown AMG version, the all-new A45 S AMG. The new model, which claims to be the most powerful hatchback sold in the history of the Indian car market, will be brought to India through the CBU route in limited numbers.

2022 Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG – Pricing and Colour Options

Unlike many AMG-spec cars launched in 2021, the Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG has been launched in India through the CBU route. This is the main reason behind its stratospheric price point of Rs 79.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The new Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG has six colour options to choose from, namely Designo Patagonia Red, Sun Yellow, Polar White, Cosmos Black, Mountain Grey and Designo Mountain Grey Magno.

2022 Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG – Exterior

Based on the current iteration of the globally available A-Class hatchback which has been skipped for India, the new Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG gets a full-blown AMG treatment. This substantial visual tweak over the regular A-Class hatchback gives the A45 S AMG the perfect show to match its go.

As expected, the Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG has a sporty aura all around, with AMG-specific design elements like Panamericana grille with vertical slats, re-profiled front bumper with large air dams and integrated splitter, wider track over the A35 sedan, all-LED headlamps and tail lamps, sporty rear diffuser, quad exhaust outlets and large 19-inch alloy wheels.

2022 Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG – Interior

The new Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG gets well-detailed AMG elements on the inside as well. The sporty hatchback gets an AMG multi-functional steering wheel and sports bucket seats with AMG branding, both of which come with contrasting lime green accents.

Apart from these, the entire cabin has been retained from the regular A-Class hatchback, with features like Mercedes-Benz’s latest MBUX-powered cockpit with twin 10.25-inch TFT screens for instrument console and touchscreen infotainment system, AI-based voice assistant, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, powered front seats with memory function, cruise control, head-up display, 12-speaker Burmester audio system and wireless phone charger.

2022 Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG – Engine and Transmission

Powering the Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG is the world’s most powerful 2.0-litre petrol engine. This four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is coupled to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and pumps out astonishing performance numbers – 421 bhp of maximum power and 500 Nm of maximum torque. While the car claims a top speed of 270 kmph, it takes 3.9 seconds to reach the 100 kmph mark from a standstill.

2022 Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG – Chassis

Mercedes-Benz is offering A45 S AMG with a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system as standard, with the car getting seven drive modes, including Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Slippery, Individual, Race and Drift mode. The 4MATIC system features a multi-plate clutch for torque control so that the maximum amount of power produced is channelled to each of the rear wheels. The car also gets an AMG-specific tuning job for the steering and suspension setups. The 360mm front discs and 330mm rear discs of the Mercedes-Benz A45 S AMG are bestowed with red callipers.
