Kawasaki has announced the launch of the 2022 model of the litre-class sport tourer, the Ninja 1000 SX, in India. Except for the new colour options, the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX has received no changes to its previous model and continues to be mechanically the same. Kawasaki has opened the bookings for the new Ninja 1000 SX, deliveries of which will start in December 2021.
What’s new?
The new Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX will be offered in two new colour options of Emerald Blazed Green and Metallic Matte Graphene Steel Gray. Both the colour options are priced at Rs 11.40 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Design and Features
Save for the new colour options, the rest of the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX, continues to be the same. The litre-class sport tourer, which is originally based on the Z1000 naked roadster, has relaxed ergonomics and plusher rider and pillion seats, compared to the other two litre-class fully-faired motorcycles from Kawasaki, the Ninja ZX-10R and the Ninja H2.
The Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX gets a rakish front fairing with dual angular all-LED headlamps and fairing-mounted rearview mirrors. Even the clear lens turn indicators are integrated into the lower part of the front fairing. The 19-litre fuel tank is big enough to support its claims as a powerful long-distance sports tourer. Compared to the Z1000, the Ninja 1000 SX gets a different looking rear end too, with the tail section being slightly broader with a bigger pillion seat and split pillion grab rails and a new LED tail lamp with LED turn indicators.
The motorcycle is equipped with features like a 4.3-inch TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, dual-channel ABS, cruise control, four riding modes – Road, Rain, Sport and Rider, two power modes – Full and Low, three-level traction control, up-and-down quick-shifter and Kawasaki Cornering Management function with 6-axis IMU.
Engine and Transmission
There are no changes made to the liquid-cooled, inline-four, 1043cc engine of the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX, which makes 140 bhp @ 10,000 rpm of maximum power and 111 Nm @ 8,000 rpm of maximum torque. The engine continues to be paired to the same 6-speed gearbox as before.
Chassis
The Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX has got a suspension combination of 41mm upside-down telescopic forks with 120mm travel at the front and horizontal back-link gas-charged mono-shock with 144mm travel at the rear. Both the front and rear suspension units get rebound damping and spring preload adjustability, with additional compression damping for the front. Riding on Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 tyres, the Ninja 1000 SX gets dual 300mm discs at the front and a single 250mm disc at the rear.
Competitors
The Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX is one of the most affordable litre-class motorcycles. At its price point, it competes with the Ducati SuperSport 950, which is smaller and has lesser power than the Ninja 1000 SX.
