Yamaha has added a new Monster Energy Edition to the lineup of its dual-purpose 150cc motorcycle, the WR 155R. Like in every other Monster Energy Edition motorcycle from Yamaha, the WR 155R also gets the signature black paint scheme with dark blue and neon green highlights.
Price
The new Yamaha WR 155R Monster Energy Edition has been priced at RP 38,325,000 (around Rs 2 lakh). This makes it Rs 3,100 more expensive than the standard version of the WR 155R sold in the Indonesia, which is priced at RP 38,321,900.
Design
The entire bodywork of the Yamaha WR 155R Monster Energy Edition is painted in the shade of black. There are dark blue highlights on the front cowl, front fender, fuel tank and rear side body panels. While the tip of the front fender and sides of the fuel tank comes with neon-green coloured M logos of Monster Energy, the long and flat single-piece seat is in the shade of dark blue.
Apart from these changes, the Yamaha WR 155R Monster Energy Edition retains the lean and tall stance of the standard version, with a long and high-mounted front fender, an arrowhead-shaped headlamp with clear lens turn indicators, slim fuel tank, off-road spec dual-purpose tyres over aluminium spoke wheels and a pointy tail section. The bike also gets a compact full rectangular fully digital instrument console, which shows speed, engine RPMs, fuel level, gear indicator, odometer and trip meters.
Engine
The engine of the Yamaha WR 155R Monster Energy Edition is a four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 155cc engine which we have seen in the YZF-R15 and MT-15 in India. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine gets variable valve actuation technology and makes a maximum power output of 16.7 PS @ 10,000 rpm and maximum torque output of 14.3 Nm @ 6,500 rpm.
Chassis
Unlike the YZF-R15 and MT-15, the Yamaha WR 155R Monster Energy Edition is based on a semi-double-cradle frame, which is comparatively more rigid and old-school to take on the rough roads better. The bike gets 41mm telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. While the ground clearance of the motorcycle is 245mm, its seat height is 888mm.
The Yamaha WR 155R Monster Energy Edition gets off-road spec tyres with broad treads over a 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear wheel. In terms of brakes, the motorcycle has been equipped with a 240mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear.
Will it come to India?
A ‘no’ is a clear answer to this. Yamaha has no plans to bring WR 155R and its Monster Energy edition to India. The bike maker recently brought in the YZF-R15 V4.0 and YZF-R15S, the latter of which is the previous generation model relaunched with a single seat instead of split seats.
