With the rising popularity of automatic cars in India, there is one feature which is nowadays highly sought after for the convenience it offers – that of paddle shifters.
Placed behind the steering wheel, the paddle shifters provide the added convenience of shifting between the gears just by your fingers without moving them from the steering wheel. Following is a list of ten most affordable cars in India which feature paddle shifters in some of their variants:
Honda Amaze
The most affordable car in the Indian market to come with paddle shifters is the Honda Amaze. While the Honda Amaze is being offered with CVT gearbox option for both petrol and diesel variants, only the petrol variants come equipped with paddle shifters. There are three variants of the Honda Amaze which get paddle shifters – S CVT (Rs. 7.91 lakh), V CVT (Rs. 8.50 lakh) and VX CVT (Rs. 8.91 lakh), both of which are powered by a 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, which is good enough to produce 90 PS of maximum power output and 110 Nm of peak torque output.
Kia Sonet
Within a year of its launch, the Kia Sonet was updated with a few additional features in 2021, of which the paddle shifters for its automatic variants is the most highlighted one. The Kia Sonet is now available with paddle shifters for its DCT equipped petrol variants –HTX (Rs. 10.99 lakh), GTX Plus (Rs. 12.99 lakh) and GTX Plus dual tone (Rs. 13.09 lakh), as well as AT equipped diesel variants – HTX (11.29 lakh), GTX Plus (Rs. 13.25 lakh) and GTX Plus dual tone (Rs. 13.35 lakh). While the 7-speed DCT is available with a 1.0-liter three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (120 PS/172 Nm), the 6-speed AT is being offered with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine (100 PS/240 Nm).
Ford Ecosport
In the facelifted model which was launched back in 2017, the Ford Ecosport started to come equipped with paddle shifters for the sole automatic variant in which it is available, Titanium+ (Rs. 11.39 lakh). The 6-speed automatic gearbox in this variant is paired to a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, which is good enough to produce 122 PS of maximum power output and 149 Nm of maximum torque output.

Toyota Yaris
The Toyota Yaris might be a low seller for Toyota in the highly competitive category of compact sedans. However, the Yaris offers the convenience of paddles shifters across its entire range. All the automatic variants of the Toyota Yaris, namely J Option CVT (Rs. 9.86 lakh), G Option CVT (Rs. 11.26 lakh), J CVT (Rs. 11.98 lakh), G CVT (Rs. 13.15 lakh), V Option CVT (Rs. 13.59 lakh) and VX CVT (Rs. 14.60 lakh) come with paddle shifters. All these variants source their power from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, which makes 107 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque.
Hyundai Verna
With the current facelifted third generation Verna, Hyundai is offering a range of engine and gearbox combinations to choose from. One such combination is that of a 1.0-liter three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. This combination is being offered in a single SX(O) variant, which gets paddle shifters and has been priced at Rs. 14.15 lakh. The engine here makes 120 PS of maximum power output and 172 Nm of peak torque output.
Honda City
The Honda City was one of the very first cars to come equipped with paddle shifters in the mass market segment of cars in India, since its third generation model. The current fifth generation model is available with paddle shifters in all of its three petrol-automatic variants – V CVT (Rs. 12.40 lakh), VX CVT (Rs. 13.76 lakh) and ZX CVT (Rs. 14.75 lakh). All these variants share the same powertrain – a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a CT gearbox, which belts out 121 PS of maximum power output and 145 Nm of peak torque output.
Skoda Kushaq
One of the latest entrants in the premium compact SUV category, the Skoda Kushaq is offering paddle shifters for its entire automatic variants lineup, for both 6-speed torque converter (AT) and 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox (DSG). The variants in which the paddle shifters are being offered are Ambition AT (Rs. 14.20 lakh), Style AT (Rs. 15.80 lakh) and Style DSG (Rs. 17.60 lakh). While the AT variants get a 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine (115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque), the DSG has been paired to a 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine (150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque).
Hyundai Creta
The Hyundai Creta is undoubtedly the segment leader of the premium compact SUVs, thanks to its premium and trusted brand image and host of features on offer. While the second generation Hyundai Creta is available with a plethora of engine-gearbox combinations and variants to choose from, it is only the variants with 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (140 PS of power and 242 Nm of torque) paired to a 7-speed DCT, which get paddle shifters. There are two such variants – SX (Rs. 16.67 lakh) and SX (O) (Rs. 17.71 lakh).
Volkswagen T-Roc
Positioned at a very niche point, the Volkswagen T-Roc is a premium crossover from the German car maker, which offers a great combination of style and performance. Available in a single fully loaded variant, which is priced at Rs. 21.35 lakh, the Volkswagen T-Roc gets paddle shifters for the 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox it comes with. The power is sourced from a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which is capable of belting out 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of maximum torque.
Skoda Octavia
The all-new Skoda Octavia has landed on the Indian shores, and this time around, it is bigger, powerful and more premium than ever before. The fourth generation Skoda Octavia is available in two variants – Style (Rs. 25.99 lakh) and Lauren & Klement (Rs. 28.99 lakh) – both of which get paddle shifters for the standard 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. The standard engine option in both the variants is a 2.0-liter four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine shared with the Superb sedan, which makes 190 PS of maximum power output and 320 Nm of maximum torque output.
