Renowned Chinese automaker BYD has commenced its innings in the Indian car market today with one of its globally popular models, the e6 all-electric MPV. The MPV was under trial runs across the country for a long time now. The new BYD e6 has entered a rather niche segment, for it is the country’s first fully-electric MPV on sale. The BYD e6 has been launched with a starting price of Rs 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Price and Availability
The BYD e6 will be available as a fully-electric MPV in a single fully loaded trim, which has been priced at Rs 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India). However, unlike other passenger cars which are open for purchase by customers, the BYD e6 is on sale only to corporate buyers and car fleet owners, who wish to purchase this car on a made-to-order bulk basis.
Currently, BYD has set up bases in the form of showrooms only in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, Vijaywada and Ahmedabad. However, the Chinese carmaker is eyeing expanding its footprints in other Tier 1 cities in the days to come.

Exterior
The overall design and stance of the BYD e6 stay true to the MPV design ethos with a closed grille at the front, depicting that it is an all-electric vehicle. The car gets wide looking headlamps that incorporate LED projectors and are joined with a sleek chrome slat. The 36 gets additional chrome on side window surrounds, over the tail lamps and boot lid width. Other crucial highlights of the BYD e6’s exterior are triangular air vents on front bumpers, blacked-out pillars, multi-spoke silver alloy wheels, door-mounted rearview mirrors and LED inserts in the tail lamps.
Interior
The BYD e6 is equipped with a decent amount of features on the inside, with the MPV getting power driver and co-passenger seats, leather upholstery, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, air purifier and automatic climate control. However, unlike other MPVs sold in India, the BYD e6 gets a five-seating layout and a large boot compartment, instead of a seven-seater layout.
Powertrain
The BYD e6 is a front-wheel-drive MPV with a 70 kW electric motor mounted on the front axle, which produces a peak torque output of 180 Nm. It also gets a 71.7 kWh blade battery, which ensures a maximum driving range of 520 km. This makes it the vehicle with the longest range in the country now. The battery of the BYD e6 is compliant with both AC and DC fast charging solutions, and with the latter mode of charging, it takes just 35 minutes to charge from 30 per cent to 80 per cent. The claimed top speed of the BYD e6 is 130 kmph.
BYD claims a warranty of 3 years/125,000 km (whichever is earlier) for the vehicle, 8 years/150,000 km (whichever is earlier) for the electric motor and 8 years/500,000 km (whichever is earlier) for the battery cell.
