Petrol Engine Comparison
The petrol powertrains are the same for both cars, but Ignis is 35kgs lighter than Swift. This should translate into a better power-to-weight ratio but as it turns out, Ignis is less frugal than the new hatchback. The fuel tank capacity of Ignis is also five litres less than that of 2018 Swift, which means the micro-SUV also has a lower driving range as compared to the hatchback. This can be credited to Ignis’ design which is not as aerodynamic as that of the 2018 Maruti Swift.

Same as the petrol variants even the diesel option shared by the two cars are identical. What is interesting to see is even though Maruti Ignis is offed only with a 5-speed manual transmission, it somehow manages to offer an inferior claimed fuel economy than that of the 2018 Maruti Swift. The new hatchback offers automated manual transmission option for both petrol as well as diesel engine options.
