2021 has been a dramatic year for Ducati, as it has been on a spree of launching the latest iterations of its superbikes here in India. The latest to join the Indian lineup of Ducati is the new Hypermotard 950. Positioned between the Monster and Streetfighter motorcycles, the new Ducati Hypermotard 950 has been launched in two variants, with the prices starting at Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Variants and Pricing
The new Ducati Hypermotard is available in three variants globally – standard, RVE and SP. However, for the Indian market, the base standard variant has been skipped. While the Hypermotard 950 RVE has been priced at Rs 12.99 lakh, the more premium Hypermotard 950 SP is priced with a hefty premium at Rs 16.24 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, India).
Design and Features
For the new BS6 iteration, Ducati has carried out minute tweaks to the overall design of the Hypermotard. The motorcycle continues to come with a lean and tall stance giving it a good balance between a dual-purpose off-roader and a naked roadster. However, the body panels, fuel tank and front fascia comprising of a sleek headlamp and high mounted front fender with nostril-like air vents are tweaked a bit to keep it afresh.
Both the variants of the Ducati Hypermotard 950 have been equipped with features like a wide handlebar with knuckle guards, flat seat, removable passenger footpegs, twin under seat exhausts, full LED headlamp, tail lamp and turn indicators, 4.3-inch full TFT instrument console and a USB socket. The more premium SP variant gets additional bits like Marchesini forged alloy wheels and the front mudguard and timing belt cover made of carbon fibre.
The standard list of electronic riding aids in both the variants of the motorcycle comprises dual-channel cornering ABS, power modes, riding modes, traction control, wheelie control and Bosch 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU).
Engine and Transmission
The standard powertrain option made available for the Ducati Hypermotard 950 is Ducati Testastretta 11-degree liquid-cooled V-twin engine, which displaces 937cc and is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox. This engine is the same powertrain that powers other motorcycles like SuperSport 950 and Multistrada 950. Here in the Hypermotard 950, the engine makes 112.4 bhp @ 9,000 rpm of maximum power output and 96 Nm @ 7,250 rpm of maximum torque output.
Chassis
Ducati has revised the trellis frame of the Hypermotard 950, which gets a new trellis sub-frame. The suspension setup employed in both variants is different from each other. The RVE variant gets fully adjustable 45mm Marzocchi inverted telescopic forks at the front and preload and rebound adjustable Sachs mono-shock at the rear. On the other hand, the SP variant gets 48mm inverted telescopic forks at the front and mono-shock at the rear, both of which are sourced from Ohlins. The braking setup is common for both variants, which includes dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 245mm disc at the rear.
