Husqvarna has lifted off the covers from its flagship motorcycle for global markets, the Norden 901. Based on the KTM 890 Adventure, the new Husqvarna Norden 901 has been introduced as a neo-retro adventure tourer that is designed for both on and off-road riding.
Design and Features
The new Husqvarna Norden 901 has been designed on the lines of the Norden 901 concept, which was previewed to the world at the EICMA 2019. The motorcycle features a very distinctive design language, which makes it a one-of-a-kind neo-retro adventure tourer. The motorcycle features an all-LED rounded headlamp which is assisted with a small windscreen above it. However, for high-speed touring lovers, Husqvarna has made a bigger windscreen available as an optional extra. There are additional LED positioning lights placed below the main headlamp.
The Husqvarna Norden 901 has a tall and minimalist stance when viewed from sideways, with a clean and angular set of body panels and a 19-litre fuel tank blended with a sharp and minimal looking tailpiece. The motorcycle also features split seats and a luggage carrier at the back. The motorcycle also has 854mm tall seat height, spoke wheels with off-road spec tyres and a high-mounted single exhaust.
Powertrain
The Husqvarna Norden 901 shares its parallel-twin, liquid-cooled, 889cc DOHC engine with the KTM 890 Adventure. Here in the Norden 901, the engine makes a maximum power output of 105 bhp @ 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque output of 100 Nm @ 6,500 rpm. Even the 6-speed transmission has been retained from the Husqvarna Norden 901 and is coupled with an up and down quick shifter.
Electronic riding aids
Apart from a quick shifter, the Husqvarna Norden 901 also has a few additional electronic riding aids, the list of which includes cruise control, three riding modes – Street, Rain and Off-Road, cornering ABS and traction control. There is an optional ‘Explorer’ riding mode, which is essentially a customizable riding mode that can be set depending on the preference of the rider. The motorcycle also comes with a 5-inch full TFT instrument console, which gets Bluetooth connectivity as standard.
Chassis
Sharing its basic frame with the KTM 890 Adventure, the Husqvarna Norden 901 gets a suspension setup of 43mm upside-down hydraulic telescopic forks from WP Apex with 220mm travel at the front and a fully-adjustable mono-shock with 215mm travel at the rear. In a typical adventure motorcycle fashion, the Husqvarna Norden 901 gets a larger 21-inch wheel at the front and an 18-inch wheel at the back, both of which come wrapped with off-road spec tyres. For the braking setup, the motorcycle has been equipped with dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 260mm disc at the back.
Competition
Apart from its distant cousin KTM 890 Adventure, the Husqvarna Norden 901 also take on the likes of motorcycles like BMW F 850 GS, Ducati Multistrada 950 and Triumph Tiger 900. The Husqvarna Norden 901 is currently not there in the immediate launch plans of Husqvarna in the Indian market, which currently sells 250cc versions of Svartpilen and Vitpilen in India.
