The next-generation Elite i20 gets radical changes and new engine & transmission options.
The South Korean automaker is gearing up to launch the next-generation i20 next month around Diwali. Hyundai is looking to clear the stocks before the updated version of the premium hatchback is introduced. The current i20 is offered with a cash discount of Rs 50,000 along with additional benefits such as exchange bonus, special deals for corporate/POI customers. What’s new in the next-gen Hyundai Elite i20?
The new Hyundai gets changes skin-deep. The design, style and engines – all have changed in the 2020 Elite i20.
Engines
The new i20 will borrow its engines from the Venue SUV this time. It will feature 1.2-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Earlier this year, Hyundai discontinued the diesel i20 owing to the application of BS6 emission norms.
For the uninitiated, only Tata Altroz is offered with a diesel engine presently. Rest other cars such as Maruti Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and Toyota Glanza are available as a petrol-only vehicle.
The latest transmission tech of the Hyundai, the iMT (clutchless gearbox) is expected to make way in the new i20, besides, the 5-speed/6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT.

Design
The next-generation Hyundai i20 gets sharper looks and aggressive design language. It gets a smart-looking LED headlamps, large cascading grille (2020 Verna-like), sculpted bonnet, sleek front bumper and triangular fog lamp housing. The highlight of the rear profile is the Z-shaped LED tail lamps.
The new i20 gets a fresh dashboard layout with horizontal effect across the dash. It is likely to get an 8-inch touchscreen unit. It gets a new steering wheel which is also seen in the new-gen Creta. Ambient lighting is also visible in door storage areas and footwells.
In terms of features, it is likely to get wireless charging, 8-speaker Bose sound system and charging points. It is expected getting BlueLink connected car technology.
