After announcing in June 2021, Maruti Suzuki has implemented a price hike on some of its most popular models in the Indian market. The range of cars which have received a price hike this time are the all-time popular Swift hatchback as well as its complete range of CNG cars.
The prices of Maruti Suzuki Swift have gone up by Rs. 15,000, while the CNG powered variants of Alto 800, Eeco, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Dzire Tour S, Ertiga and Super Carry have witnessed a price hike of Rs. 10,000. The prices of rest of the cars from Maruti Suzuki have been kept the same as before as of now. However, they too will see an uptick by September 2021 – just before the commencement of festive season.
The decision of price hike taken by Maruti Suzuki is in the wake of a regulatory filing from 21st June, 2021, as per which Maruti Suzuki India said that the cost of manufacturing the vehicles is being adversely affected due to increase in other input costs. Therefore, the company intended to pass on the rising costs to customers in the form of price hikes across its range.
This is the third time in the ongoing calendar that Maruti Suzuki has carried out a price hike across its range in India. In the beginning of the year 2021 in January, the car maker implemented a price of 1-6 percent, thus resulting in a hike of almost Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 34,000 across its range. A similar price hike was then followed in April 2021 as well. These price hikes included the new facelifted Maruti Suzuki Swift as well, which was launched in the beginning of 2021 only.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift, in its current avatar, is a petrol-only model, which is powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine, capable of making 90 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of maximum torque The hatchback is being offered with a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Apart from Swift, the other model launch scheduled by Maruti Suzuki in the year 2021 is the all new second generation version of Celerio hatchback. The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio will be wearing an all new design language, and will come with two powertrain options of a 1.0-liter petrol and 1.2-liter petrol, with both 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic gearboxes.
