Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 takes a sprint of 0-100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds and has a top speed 250 kmph.
After a lot of speculations, Mercedes-Benz has launched its super exclusive and super-premium SUV, the new Maybach GLS 600 in India. The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 will be the new flagship SUV from the German car maker, the price of which has been set at Rs. 2.43 Crore (Ex-showroom, India).
Such was the anticipation of this luxury SUV, that Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that all the 50+ units allocated for India for the year 2021 have already been allocated for the customers who pre-booked this SUV. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 is one of the 15 new products which the German car brand had planned for the year 2021, at the beginning of the year.
Exterior
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 shares its entire design and silhouette with the standard Mercedes Benz GLS class SUV. However, the German car maker has carried out some noteworthy alterations, which do make it look much richer and opulent than the standard version.
For starters, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 differentiates from the standard version with its dual-tone body-color treatment, with the upper half (roof, pillars, rear view mirrors and bonnet) in separate color and lower half (door panels, fenders and bumpers) in a separate color. Also, the front grille, bumper inserts, skid plates, B-pillar and side window surrounds are finished entirely in chrome. The grille comes with vertical slats as compared to horizontal ones on the standard GLS SUV. The alloy wheels are bigger too – they are 23-inch multi-spoke units. And lastly, there is the glorious Maybach badging present on the D-pillar.
Other than that, the overall silhouette of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 is similar to that of the standard version, with the all-LED headlamps and tail lamps retained from the latter.

Interior
On the inside, the overall layout of the dashboard of the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 is completely similar to that of the standard GLS SUV. Where the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 clearly differentiates itself is the choice of materials and upholsteries, all of which are different shades of Nappa leather. The Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 can in either a four-seater of five-seater version. In the four-seater version, the SUV gets a wide and large center console between the two rear seats, which accommodates champagne bottles and silver champagne flutes as well as a touch-sensitive tablet screen to control various functions and features of the SUV.
Features
Being the flagship SUV, the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 is clearly the best equipped SUV the German car maker has ever come up with. The list of comfort and convenience features of the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 includes air balance package with customizable fragrances for interior cabin, powered and ventilated seats with massaging functions, Burmester 3D surround sound system, four-zone automatic climate control, customizable ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof with opaque roller blinds.
The Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 also comes with an ultra-wide TFT cockpit screen which incorporates two 12.3-inch screens side-by-side – one for instrument console and the other for the touch-sensitive infotainment system, the latter of which features the latest ‘Mercedes Me’ connected car technology and ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice command system.
Engine and Transmission
The sole engine and gearbox combination which the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 is being made available in the Indian car market is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The engine is capable of belting out a maximum power output of 550 PS and maximum torque output of 730 Nm.
The engine of the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 also features a 48V mild-hybrid system with an EQ boost function, which increases the power and torque outputs by 21 PS and 250 Nm respectively. The engine is capable of pulling off this 3,250 kg SUV from standstill to 100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds, with the top speed electronically controlled at a maximum 250 kmph.

Chassis
The Mercedes Maybach GLS 600 is being projected as a chauffeur-driven vehicle, and in that direction, comfort has been kept at the topmost priority in the chassis development process. The flagship SUV has been armed with Adaptive Damping System Plus for its air-controlled suspension in collaboration with E-Active body control separate for each wheel, which does get Maybach specific drive program tuning.
Price and Competition
Mercedes-Benz has priced the Maybach GLS 600 at a price of Rs. 2.43 Crore (Ex-showroom, India), with the SUV being brought to India via the CBU route. This new flagship SUV from Mercedes Benz undercuts its direct rivals like Rolls Royce Cullinan, Bentley Bentayga and Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography by considerable margins.
