Mercedes Benz has launched its most opulent and feature-packed sedan ever, the latest generation Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, in India. Highly regarded as the best car in the world by many, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has been launched in India in two different variants, the pricing of which start at Rs 2.50 crore (ex-showroom, India).
Variants and Pricing
The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is now available in India in two different variants. The range-starting version is the S580, which is locally assembled in India and is priced at Rs 2.50 crore. The more premium version, the S680, is a CBU import, which is priced at Rs 3.20 crore (both prices ex-showroom, India). Both these versions of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class are based on the long-wheelbase version of the S-Class. However, the S680 is sold out till 2023, even before its official launch.
Exterior
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has a wheelbase longer than the regular S-Class by 180mm, which gives it an appeal of a much longer car. Like the GLS 600, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class also comes with a vertically-louvred Maybach grille, which is finished in chrome. The chrome detailing is present on both sides of the front bumper in a substantial amount. It also gets exclusive Maybach logos on the hood, C-pillars and boot. While it comes with Maybach-specific closed-look alloy wheels, the sedan is also offered with the options of dual-tone paint schemes.
Interior
On the inside, the extra addition of length has increased the legroom and knee room for the rear passengers. However, unlike the regular S-Class, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is a strict four-seater car, with a broad tunnel in between the rear seats. Like its predecessor, this Maybach version of the S-Class comes with exclusive leather upholstery and trim options, with Maybach-specific graphics on the instrument console and infotainment system, both of which are full-TFT screens.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is the most luxurious sedan from Mercedes Benz in India, so, naturally, it is equipped with the best of features in a passenger car. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is equipped with features like powered rear seats, four-zone automatic climate control, powered, heated and ventilated front and rear seats with massage function, panoramic sunroof, power-close function for rear doors with gesture control, chauffer package, 1750W Burmester sound system and rear-seat entertainment screens.
The list of safety features in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is also lengthy, with features like 13 airbags, a 360-degree camera, hands-free parking and a level 2 autonomous driving assistance system (ADAS) which includes autonomous emergency braking, lane change assist, lane keep assist, evasive steering assist and more.
Engine and Transmission
Both the variants of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class are bestowed with different engine options. The S580 variant is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which produces 510 PS of power and 700 Nm of torque. This engine also gets a mild-hybrid system, which churns out an additional 20 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. The more powerful and luxurious S680 gets a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine, which makes 620 PS of maximum power and 900 Nm of maximum torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission is standard for both versions of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
Competition
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sits right at the top of the lineup of Mercedes Benz in India and competes with Bentley Flying Spur and Rolls Royce Ghost.
