Toyota Innova Crysta Review

In 2016, the giant leap of the quintessential ‘Innova’ in the form of ‘Innova Crysta’ further fostered the premium MPV’s image in its segment. The capacious cabin studded with practical features, Toyota’s bomb-proof reliability, capable drivetrains and high resale value makes it a favourite of one and all. Banking on its exuberant past, the Japanese carmaker recently introduced the latest iteration of Toyota Innova Crysta in India.

So, let’s sneak into what all freshness and enrichments 2021 Crysta have to offer this time as the undisputed segment leader.

The new Innova Crysta variant range is priced between Rs 16.26 – 24.33 lakh. The Crysta petrol line-up starts from Rs 16.26 lakh (GX MT) and goes up to Rs 22.48 lakh (ZX AT). Moreover, the diesel variant choice opens at Rs 17.62 lakh (G MT) and stretches till Rs 24.33 lakh (ZX AT). Compared to the prices of the predecessor model the new 2021 Innova sees a price jump of Rs 20,000 – Rs 70,000. All prices given are of ex-showroom, Delhi.

Despite being an MPV the Innova Crysta has always been a driver’s car due to its plush driving dynamics and high-performance engine under the hood. The BS6 compliant 2.7L, 4-inline cylinder, 16V Dual VVT-i petrol engine gives out 166PS of maximum power at 5200rpm and highest torque value of 245Nm at 4000rpm. The engine is mated to a choice of 5-speed manual gearbox and 6-speed automatic with sequential-shift transmission.

The diesel companion is a BS6 2.4L 4-inline cylinder, common rail diesel engine with intercooler and variable nozzle turbo-charger generates peak power of 150PS at 3400rpm and top torque of 343Nm at 1400-2800rpm. On the transmission front, the diesel engine gets similar 5-speed MT and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as seen on the petrol engine. Exterior & Dimensions

Being a mid-life facelift, the 2021 Innova Crysta receives minor changes in its exteriors. The front of new Innova features a freshly designed grille with gloss black finish and chunky chrome word surrounding the bottom of it. It gets tweaked LED headlamps with chrome accents flanking the front grille. The front bumper features modifications in the form of stylish side indicator placement and new circular fog lamps near the skid plate. The side profile change comes in the form of a new set of dual-tone alloy wheels, while the Innova rear goes untouched.

The features that continue to be a part of the Toyota MPV comprise of power adjust ORVMs,  headlamp levelling (manual/auto), shark fin antenna, black-out door frame, rear spoiler with integrated high mount stop lamp, cooled glove box, rear window wiper and defogger, and others.

The 2021 Toyota Innova Crysta measures a huge 4735mm in length, 1830mm in width, and 1795mm in height alongside carries a class-leading wheelbase of 2750mm.

Safety has been a priority with Innova which it continues to offer in the form of 7 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, hill launch assist, front and rear seatbelts, reverse monitor, seat and door ajar warning, clutch start system and many more.

Mileage

The new Innova Crysta is more focused towards performance still its petrol version is capable of delivering a fuel efficiency of around 10-11 kmpl and around 13-15 kmpl with its diesel engine.

Rivals

The 2021 Innova Crysta is pitted against the likes of MG Hector Plus, Kia Carnival, Tata Gravitas (upcoming) and Tata Hexa BS6.

Verdict

The latest upgrade of Innova makes it more appealing, upmarket and tech-loaded. The availability of automatic in both petrol and diesel variants provide the buyers with a wholesome choice. Despite being slightly overpriced (especially, the top-end trims) the value it offers in the form of reliability, comfort, versatility, resale and performance, which no other car offers as a package, Innova again emerges as an invincible winner.
